Are you facing issues while trying to upgrade the OS your iPad to the latest version of iOS? Apple usually releases a new version of iOS every year. These released updates include latest features, bug fixes, and improved security. The latest version of iOS is iOS 11 and this update is not compatible with all the older devices from Apple. We need to accept the fact that hardware gets slower with age and software gets more and more demanding. Therefore, an Apple device that was state of the art a few years before might not be able to run the latest version of iOS.

The axe has now fallen on iPad 4, iPhone 5c, and iPhone 5. Users will not be able to install iOS 11 in these devices. The supported iPad models are iPad Pro (12.9, 2015), iPad Air 1, iPad Air 2, iPad Pro (9.7), iPad Pro (12.9, 2017), iPad Pro (10.5), iPad 2017, iPad Mini 2, iPad Mini 3, and iPad Mini 4. This means that if you have an iPad Air 1 or later, or iPad Mini 2 or later models, you will be able to install iOS 11 for free. Yet you may face a few issues while trying to install iOS 11 even on the supported devices. The reasons are explained below.

Insufficient Storage Space

With a recent release, Apple had changed the away their OS is updated, allowing to make the upgrade even with a small amount of free storage space. However, you will still need about 2 GB of free storage to install iOS 11. If you are running close to the edges while considering storage space, you might not be able to see the option to download the update. Instead of that, you might see a link to see the space usage of the iPad. Note that you might also need to trim some of the apps, movies, music, or images, before you can install the update.

Insufficient Battery Charge

Another problem that can hold you from upgrading the operating system of your iPad is insufficient battery charge. If the battery of your iPad is below fifty percent, the device will not allow you to upgrade without plugging into a power source. You can charge the iPad with the adapter that was supplied with it and once there is enough juice in the battery of the device, you can try to update the operating system. You will be able to update to the latest iOS version without any issues if the device is compatible.
